World War I
Building the Army
When America had entered WW1 they needed an army to fight in the war. They were unprepared and needed soldiers to fight. They built the army by passing the Selective Service Act which called for a draft. A draft is selecting a person or people for a certain purpose in this case the army in WW1. The Selective Service Act of 1917 required all men from 21-30 years of age to register for military service. This was successful as the draft acquired 10,000,000 men across the country. The first troops were sent to the European continent even though a majority of the soldiers were not trained to fight. However they didn’t play a major role in the war until one year later in 1918.
The army plays a significant role during WW1. Without America having the army there would be no way of fighting and defending ourselves. Also, without them to defend the country America could have come under attack. Having well trained soldiers will dictate our outcome in WW1. They are the people who fight in order to protect and defend America. The more well trained soldiers that America acquires, the stronger of a chance they have at winning the war. The soldiers in the army would make sure that America doesn’t lose the war.
