Food Sacrafices

During World War one, people in America had to make sacrifices to accommodate the soldiers that were fighting for America. The people in America gave up food for the soldiers and other allies of America. Back at home women were using their creativity to manage feeding their families and the Army. They conserved as much as possible, and had meatless Mondays, Victory Gardens and Wheatless Wednesdays. On meatless Mondays and Wheatless Wednesdays the people of America gave up those resources on those days. The victory gardens were gardens in people’s backyards that produces fruits and vegetables for the soldiers. These gardens helped the soldiers and Allies get though the war without being hungry.

Sacrafice was done to feed the soldiers and allies overseas during World War one. People did this because they knew that hungry could lose us the war if the soldiers weren’t able to fight due to hunger. Feeding our army was something that could help us win the war. People gave up wheat, meat, and pork. People back home were still fine having a little less food. People called their gardens Victory Gardens because they believed that feeding the soldiers well to help them win.
