U-Boats

A U-Boat is a type of submarine invented by Germans for use in World War 1. They were used for fighting under water without being detected. The U-Boats could carry 35 men, 12 torpedoes, and were 214 feet long. It could travel under water for two hours. The Germans secretly stored parts in the boat when they were fighting.

The U-Boats are very important because it made the navy stronger. They were able to sneak up on other submarines during the war. The U-Boat could take out other boats quickly and were difficult to protect against because they were difficult to detect. It was easier for the Germans to hide and be protected from the war. Germany frequently used their U-Boats against the Allied Powers' war ships and their civilian ships.  The German's used these against some ships carrying Americans and against some American ships before America got involved in the war. The use of these submarines against their country angered Americans and would help get the USA involved in the war.
