Imperialism

Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. The imperialistic countries had power over the non-imperialistic countries. Countries would take over new lands and territories and makes that country follow there rules and culture. Some imperialistic places include British Empire, Russia, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Spain, United States, the Ottoman Empire, and Italy. Many countries used this policy and this caused many problems in the world.

It’s important to know about imperialism because it was a big cause of World War I. Imperialistic nations established control over new territories in many ways. For example, they would use methods like annexation, filtration, war, and military conquest. Once the country was taken over it was now claimed as a colony of the imperialistic nation. Since many of the leading world powers were imperialistic nations there was tension between them because they were competing for the land to conquer and to become more powerful than the other countries.
